According to the statement from the ministerial portfolio, published on its website, the security forces repelled the attack, but there were many victims during the operation, without giving a precise figure. A security source has provided the provisional death toll and details of the attack to the Iraqi news portal Shafaq.

The jihadist group retains several hundred fighters distributed in several traveling cells within Iraqi territory, where they have carried out several attacks in recent months, despite the territorial defeat of their ‘caliphate’.

During this period of time, the Iraqi Government has launched several detention operations that have resulted in the capture of dozens of suspected members of the Islamic State, including several described as senior officials of the terrorist organization.
