At least five people have died in recent hours in the Pakistani city of Karachi due to the monsoon rains that are hitting the region.
The water has flooded parts of the city and has caused power outages coinciding with the Muslim Eid al Adha festivities, according to the Pakistani dam.
The Police have confirmed the death of four men electrocuted in various parts of the city and a fifth victim died after the collapse of a wall.
The authorities of the Sindh province, where Karachi is located, have assured that cleaning work has been carried out on the rainwater pipes, but the rains of the last night have overwhelmed all the systems and have caused floods in several neighborhoods of the city with up to 126 millimeters of rainfall per square meter in three hours in some areas of Karachi.
As many as ten dams in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province have been reported to have burst this weekend due to heavy rains, some of them constructions dating back to the colonial era. In the last week, dozens of deaths have been counted.
