At least five dead in attack in Russia's Belgorod region

Aug. 30 () –

At least five people have been killed and 37 others injured in an attack on the Russian city of Belgorod and its surroundings on Friday, according to the regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, who has blamed the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The governor, who said that ten of the injured were in serious condition, said in a series of messages posted on his Telegram account that the attack had also caused damage to residential buildings and vehicles.

A state of emergency has been in force in Belgorod since mid-month, following an increase in Ukrainian attacks, which have also intensified in other border regions such as Kursk, where Ukrainian troops have even carried out a ground incursion.

Ukrainian authorities claim that Russia is using these areas near the border to launch its bombings. In fact, the governor of Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, has said that a series of shells that killed six people on Friday had been fired from Belgorod.
