September 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least five people have been killed and dozens more injured in an Israeli attack on the Safad school in the Al Zeitun neighbourhood of Gaza City.
The Palestinian daily Al Quds reported the attack on the former school, now used as a shelter for displaced people.
The Israeli military has confirmed the attack and said the site was used as a command centre for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) militias.
“Air Force fighter jets have selectively attacked terrorists from the Hamas terrorist organization operating in the command and control complex located in the area previously used as the Safad school in Gaza City under the direction of military intelligence, Shin Bet and the Southern Command,” the military statement said.
Specifically, Israel notes that this site was used “to plan and carry out terrorist operations against the Armed Forces and the State of Israel” and stresses that before the attack “many measures were taken to reduce the possibility of harming civilians.”
He thus reproached Hamas for “systematically violating international law, brutally using civil institutions and the population as human shields for terrorist acts.”
