Feb. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least eleven Syrian soldiers have died this Wednesday after two attacks in the province of Idlib, in northwestern Syria, perpetrated by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a coalition of militias that includes former fighters of the Front al Nusra, the defunct Syrian affiliate of al Qaeda.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has indicated that the first attack has resulted in the death of eight soldiers, including a commander, at a headquarters on the Kafroma front.
The second attack, carried out by snipers from an HTS brigade, has claimed the lives of three soldiers in Kafr Nabl, in the southern countryside of Idlib, according to the agency. For the moment, the official Syrian media have not reported any such attacks.
HTS is the most relevant armed group in the province of Idlib, which remains outside the control of the Syrian authorities. In Idlib, various armed groups also operate with the support of Turkey, which has also deployed soldiers in this province.
