ISLAMABAD, July 2 (DPA/EP) –
At least eight students from an Islamic religious school have been involved in an explosion in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, according to local official sources.
The explosion occurred overnight in the Rodat district and two of the injured students were in critical condition when they were taken to hospital.
Police spokesman Abdul Basir Zabuli confirmed to the TOLOnews station that the explosion was the product of a hand grenade being thrown at the seminary, which also has dormitories for students.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Islamic State militias have an active presence in the country, mainly in the east, and have frequently carried out attacks against Taliban forces and minority religious groups.
Islamic State recently claimed responsibility for two separate attacks on a Taliban gathering in the country’s capital, Kabul.
