At least 90 dead in the explosion of a tanker in Nigeria

MADRID 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Nigerian Police reported this Wednesday that at least 90 people have died and dozens have been injured by the explosion of a tanker in the state of Jigawa, located in the northwest of the African country.

Most of the victims have died due to the strong explosion after approaching the place where a traffic accident had occurred that had affected said truck. Police spokesperson Shiisu Adam stated that another 50 people had to be urgently hospitalized due to their injuries.

Thus, he explained that the driver of the vehicle lost control when he was driving near Khadija University. Subsequently, the truck exploded, according to the Nigerian newspaper ‘Premium Times’.

The driver was covering the distance between Kano and Nguru, Yobe, when the accident occurred. “We are concerned that, despite warnings from the Police for people to stay away from accident scenes involving fuel tankers, people continue to approach them,” lamented Adam.
