At least 9 dead and 4 injured leave an armed attack in a fishing port in Ecuador

( Spanish) — Ecuador’s Interior Minister, Juan Zapata, confirmed to that an armed attack on Tuesday in the artisanal port of Esmeraldas, in the northwest of the country, left at least nine people dead and four injured.

The incident occurred when a group of approximately 15 unknown persons arrived in boats at the fishing port and shot at people who worked in a local winery, reported Colonel Javier Buitrón, commander of subzone 8 of the local police.

The National Police reported in a tweet that operational, investigative and intelligence units are deployed in the area to locate the perpetrators.
