MADRID Nov. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 45 people have died in the Ethiopian state of Oromía in clashes between the country’s Army against alleged members of the separatist armed group of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
Local political authorities have indicated to the BBC affiliate that among the deceased is a local administrator from the municipality of Wacale, in the North Shewa area.
According to the North Shewa Prosperity Party, the administrator and members of his entourage were ambushed in the Kara area while traveling through the area to assess the security situation.
The party attributes the attack to the “OLF-Shane group”, that is, the Oromo Liberation Army, according to the network.
The OLA, which split from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) after the 2018 peace agreement, has claimed responsibility for several attacks – especially in Oromia – in recent months. The OLF fought for decades for the secession of the region, but in 2018 announced that it was renouncing the armed struggle, accepting the prime minister’s offer of amnesty.
