Oct. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 35 people have died after the passage of storm Sitrang along the coast of Bangladesh, according to the Bangladeshi media ‘Observer’.
Most deaths are due to falling trees and boats capsizing. In addition, the storm has downed trees and power poles, and water has flooded several towns.
“We are still assessing the damage,” Kamrun Najar, an official from the Department of Disaster Management, told the DPA agency. Najar added that his office is receiving new reports about the devastation at Sitrang Pass.
Among the deceased are eight workers who drowned after the ship they were working on sank, collects the BDNews24 portal.
The storm has affected tens of thousands of homes, 33,000 hectares of crops and destroyed thousands of fisheries. The effects of the storm on the fishing boat reach the figure of 68 million rupees (about 576,000 euros) in losses.
