Indian security forces have announced the death during an operation in the state of Chhattisgarh (east) of at least 29 rebels from Maoist groups, including one of their leaders, for whose arrest a reward of 2.5 million was offered. rupees (approximately 28,100 euros).

This is Shankar Rao, who was shot dead this Tuesday along with 28 of his men in an operation in the Kanker district, in which numerous firearms have also been confiscated, reports the Indian network NDTV.

Three agents, who are part of the Border Security Force and the District Reserve Guard, the latter created in 2008 to combat this type of insurgency, present in this part of India, have been injured in the shooting.

Kanker is a frequent scene of clashes between Indian security forces and these groups. Last month, a rebel and an agent were killed during a shootout. Already in February, another clash left three more guerrillas dead.
