At least 24 people have died after an attack by a group of armed people against communities in the Mbaterem district, in the Nigerian state of Benué.

“The cause of this attack is not yet known, but the information we have is that about 20 armed men invaded Akpuuna and other villages in Ukum, killing many people and burning down several houses. At least 24 bodies have been recovered and the search continues. to the disappeared”, declared the president of the regional council, Kartyo Tyoumbur.
Overnight Saturday, another group of armed individuals attacked a community in Plaeau state, killing nine people, prompting the state’s governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to impose a 24-hour curfew.
In addition, Major General and Commander of Operation Darkhaven, Abdusalam Abubakar, has temporarily moved the headquarters to this region.
“We will stay here until we stabilize the situation. The Governor is concerned about what is happening, and that is why I am here personally to lead my troops. We will not allow the situation to deteriorate further. We are not here to joke; that’s why We will be decisive, fair and firm,” Abubakar said, according to the Nigerian newspaper ‘The Guardian’.
