MADRID 6 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 22 Palestinians have been killed and 53 more have been injured in the Israeli bombardment of the town of Deir al Balá, in the center of the Gaza Strip, according to the latest report published by the NGO Doctors Without Borders.
“Following the Israeli airstrikes in the early hours of Sunday, October 6, which hit a mosque and a school in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, Al Aqsa Hospital, supported by MSF, received 53 injured patients and 22 dead “, the group reported in a statement.
MSF nurse Eliza Sabatini reported that “many patients arrived in very poor condition, with wounds to the head, chest and abdomen.” “The situation in the hospital was terrible. There were not enough beds for all the patients and we had to treat people on the floor,” said Sabatini.
Al Aqsa Hospital is one of the few hospitals still operating in the Gaza Strip, recalls MSF. “The incessant Israeli bombing and fighting for a year, and the limited humanitarian aid allowed inside Gaza, have brought the health system to its knees,” Sabatini highlighted.
The humanitarian organization recalls that since the war in Gaza began, MSF teams have treated more than 27,600 patients for injuries related to violence, and more than 80 percent of the injuries are related to bombings. “The only way to end the continued suffering of the population is with an immediate and lasting ceasefire,” he appealed.
The Israeli Armed Forces have confirmed a “selective” attack against a mosque in Deir al-Balá that was used by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) as an operations center.
An approximate total of 41,870 people have died in the Gaza Strip as a result of the military offensive launched by Israel almost a year ago, in response to the attacks carried out by Hamas militiamen and which left some 1,200 dead and some 240 hostages.
