At least 20 people have lost their lives due to a fire that broke out in a nursing home in the Russian city of Kemerovo, in the region of the same name, in the south-central part of the country.
At around 10:20 p.m. (local time), the emergency services received a call alerting them to a fire in a two-story private nursing home. When the firefighters arrived, the roof – with an area of 180 square meters – was engulfed in flames, the TASS agency has been informed.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters have counted at least 20 people dead, while the search continues for another seven whose whereabouts are still unknown. Likewise, two victims have been hospitalized with burns in a serious condition, while four more have already been discharged after receiving medical attention.
In the extinguishing work, the fire was extinguished and then extinguished. The second floor of the building burned down completely, there were 20 guests there. On the ground floor there were shops, in particular, animal feed.
As reported by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, 28 fire brigades have started in the extinction work, adding a total of 80 people. All of them continue removing rubble at temperatures of 20 degrees below zero, according to the aforementioned agency.
This is not the first fire in a nursing home in Kemerovo. On January 8, 2022, a fire broke out on the first floor of a residence in which 48 people were evacuated and four died.
