At least 17 dead and 22 injured in a traffic accident in China

The Chinese authorities have confirmed the death of at least 17 people while another 22 remain injured after a traffic accident in the city of Nanchang, as part of the mobilizations for the Lunar New Year holidays.

According to the CGTN television network, at least 17 have lost their lives this morning in the traffic accident that took place on the outskirts of the city of Nanchang, in the Chinese province of Jiangxi, in central China.

The other 22 people who have been injured have been taken to city hospitals. According to local newspapers in the Jiangxi region that collect the testimonies of eyewitnesses, the accident was caused when a truck collided with a funeral procession that morning.

However, so far it is not clear what the causes of the accident may have been and the Chinese authorities have begun an investigation in this regard.
