Jan. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least 16 “bandits” have died in a bombardment by the Nigerian Army against one of the most dangerous criminal groups in the state of Zamfara, in the northwest of the country, according to security sources confirmed to the PRNigeria portal.

The attack was specifically directed against the leader of this group, alias “Dankarami” or “Gwaska”, considered by the Nigerian Army as a priority target. According to Nigerian media sources, the “capo” would have survived the attack and is on the run, but has suffered very serious injuries. It has not been disclosed when exactly the bombing occurred.

“We have an impeccable source who has heard how this terrorist lamented the determination of the Army to eliminate him and his family, and how he complained bitterly about the attacks,” an anonymous Nigerian intelligence source said.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, Edward Gabkwet, has limited himself to confirming the exact location of the attack, which occurred in the town of Zurmi, but has not provided further details. “The chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Marshal Oladayo Amao, wants to warn the terrorists and their sympathizers that they will have no place to hide”, he has limited himself to warning.

Zamfara is one of the preferred areas for armed attacks by groups of, as the government describes them, “bandits”; armed groups specialized in looting the towns where they operate and kidnapping minors for ransom.

Dankarami, precisely a native of Zurmi, is known to terrorize the residents of the areas in the north of Zamfara and in the West Katsina state.

He has carried out a series of attacks against residents of the two states and is reluctant to dialogue, being one of the few terrorist leaders who did not accept the peace agreement extended to the “bandits” by the Zamfara state government in 2019.
