At least 14 dead after Israeli attack on school in central Gaza

September 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Palestinian Civil Defense has reported that at least 14 people, including children, have been killed following an Israeli attack on a school run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Rescue and emergency teams have taken the bodies of the victims to nearby hospitals, although there are dozens missing under the rubble, so the death toll could rise, according to the WAFA news agency.

The Al Jauni school, which provides shelter to families of displaced people in the conflict, was hit by missiles on July 6, when at least 16 people were killed after Israeli planes bombed the school.

The Israeli army said on Wednesday that the school was being used by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) as a “command and control” site to “plan” “terrorist” operations against Israeli forces.

“Prior to the attack, numerous measures were taken to reduce the possibility of harming civilians, including the use of precision weapons and additional intelligence information,” he said in a message posted on the social network X.
