( Spanish) — At least 13 people died this Sunday after a van collided with the back of a cargo truck on a highway in Tamaulipas, in northern Mexico, the state Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported in a statement.
The incident occurred at kilometer 80 of the Hidalgo-Zaragoza highway, the SSP explained. State Civil Protection added in another statement that both vehicles caught fire after colliding.
According to the Secretariat, State Guard personnel who arrived at the scene of the accident did not find the truck that was driving the box against which the truck collided. No information on injured people has been given either.
The SSP did not provide further details about the incident and is trying to obtain more information from the entity.
On Twitter, the governor of the state, Américo Villarreal, regretted the incident and said that he has given instructions to investigate the mishap and to “provide all possible help to the relatives’ relatives.”
