They may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s clear that mobile gaming stopped being just a fad many years ago. What better example than Asus’ ROG Phone range, which today updates its sixth generation with the launch of two cheaper versions. They both bet on a chipset High-performance MediaTek instead of the more usual Qualcomm Snapdragon, maintaining the company’s distinctive aesthetics and a high technical level.

Both the ROG Phone 6D and the more refined 6D Ultimate integrate a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor, with the difference that the second model has a greater amount of RAM at its disposal, with no more and no less than 16 GB. Furthermore, the Ultimate version benefits from a rather sophisticated cooling system to reduce the throttling during longer gaming sessions, when the CPU overheats and the phone slows down to protect the hardware.

Called AeroActive Portal, this method of exchanging heat with the outside consists of a kind of hatch that opens to expose the chipset’s copper heatsink. It only activates when the AeroActive Cooler 6 external fan is connected, which “blows” cool air inside to keep the hardware at an optimal temperature. According to ROG, thanks to this solution the thermal efficiency increases up to 20%, although it does not point out the practical implications of this improvement. As for the resistance of the assembly, from Asus it is ensured that the motor supports 40,000 drive cycles.

The rest of the hardware does not hold too many surprises, with 6.78-inch OLED panels and high refresh rate, the same photographic module and the use of secondary rear screens, RGB LED type in the case of the ROG Phone 6D and AMOLED in the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate.
