Assistant Secretary of the US will travel to Colombia to address the immigration crisis

Julieta Valls Noyes, Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM), will travel to Colombia over the weekend, with a view toin the migratory crisis that the country is going through, and then he will visit Miami to meet with refugees, the State Department said Friday.

According to a statement, Noyes will be in the South American nation, from March 5 to 9, where he will visit Bogotá, Medellín and Necoclí –municipality that has become an obligatory step for the hundreds of migrants seeking to reach Central America-, where he will meet with government officials, international organizations and non-governmental partners, as well as refugees and migrants.

The purpose of the visit is “to discuss efforts to continue addressing high levels of irregular migration and Displacement in the Region and Evaluate the Effectiveness of US-Funded Humanitarian Support”.

Later, on March 10, back in the US, the assistant secretary will visit Miami, where she will meet with partners from the local refugee resettlement agency, community leaders and recently resettled refugees.
