The Government of Somalia has announced this Wednesday the death of 30 presumed members of Al Shabaab, linked to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, in operations carried out in an area bordering the regions of Galgudud and Middle Shabelle (center), within the framework of the recent offensives against the group.
The Deputy Minister of Information of Somalia, Abdirahman Yusuf Adala, has specified in statements given to the Somali state news agency SONNA, that the operations have also resulted in the seizure of weapons.
“Our forces acted quickly against Al Shabaab terrorists who were regrouping in the area,” he said, before indicating that Al Shabaab members “had to flee leaving behind the corpses.”
“We are committed to destroying the terrorist network in this region and throughout the country,” he stressed, a few days after Mogasdishu announces the second phase of the “total war” against Al Shabaab, for which the Somali forces have been preparing. during the last weeks.
Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
