The Government of Armenia announced this Friday the recognition of the State of Palestine and has reiterated its support for the two-state solution as “the only way to guarantee that Palestinians and Israelis can realize their legitimate aspirations.”
“Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website, where it reaffirmed its “commitment to International Law and the principles of equality, sovereignty and peaceful coexistence among peoples.”
Likewise, he stressed that “Armenia is sincerely interested in the establishment of peace and stability in the Middle East and a lasting reconciliation between the Jewish and Palestinian peoples” and stated that Yerevan “has always advocated a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution.
On the other hand, he noted that “the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the ongoing military conflict are one of the main issues on the international political agenda that require a solution” and added that Armenia “categorically rejects attacks against civilian infrastructure, violence against the civilian population and the taking of hostages and capture of civilians during the armed conflict”, in reference to the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel’s military offensive against the Strip.
“Armenia joins the demands of the international community for their release (of the hostages held in Gaza) without preconditions,” said the Armenian Foreign Ministry, which added that Yerevan “has joined the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
In this way, Armenia becomes the 147th UN member country that has taken the step of recognizing Palestine, following the path adopted since April by Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Spain, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia. which has provoked harsh criticism from the Israeli authorities.
