The authorities of Argentina thanked the Government of Spain this Thursday for the evacuation from Lebanon of three Argentine citizens among the more than 240 people evacuated on two chartered military planes due to the deterioration of the situation due to the escalation between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia party. “Thanks to this successful cooperation, the citizens are now in Madrid. The Argentine Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the evolution of the situation to continue working together with the international community,” reads a statement published by the Argentine Foreign Ministry on the social network. x.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, 203 people traveled on board the first plane, an A330 that landed early in the afternoon in Torrejón de Ardoz, while another 40 people came on the second, an A400. Among the evacuees – including minors – there are also citizens of Lebanon, the United States, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Venezuela.
In addition, part of the staff of the Spanish Embassy has returned, after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, announced the day before that it was going to be reduced to the essential minimum. At the moment no more evacuation flights are planned since the rest of the Spaniards in Lebanon have not yet expressed their desire to leave the country.
