( Spanish) – The Argentine Justice Department issued arrest warrants against 61 Brazilians allegedly linked to the attempted coup d’état on January 8, 2023 in Brasilia, a source in the judicial system told this Friday.
These people are accused by the Brazilian Justice of having participated in the assault that supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro carried out on the headquarters of the three powers of Brazil, just a week after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began a new period as president.
reported in July that at least 60 Brazilians investigated in their country for this case had entered Argentina and could request political asylum in that country.
The Supreme Court of Justice of Brazil had then located 143 people whom it considered related to those events – between accused and convicted – and had asked the Government of Argentina for information on whether they had entered its territory.
In this context, the Police of the province of Buenos Aires arrested two people this Thursday and Friday accused of participating in the matter. The arrests occurred in the city of La Plata and both detainees are charged with the crimes of attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damages, deterioration of property and association to commit a crime, the Police reported.
