Argentina: dozens arrested for riots while the Senate debates Milei's star project

The debate is underway this Wednesday, June 12, in the Senate of Argentina, on the controversial and retouched Bases Law, which seeks to reform and privatize the State. The star project of the president, Javier Milei, includes more than 200 articles, key for the president in his attempt to follow the path outlined in his cuts. Furthermore, if approved, the head of state could dissolve or impose regulations without parliamentary debate. A spokesperson for the Executive has already warned that Milei will continue to delve into the promised structural reforms, with or without the support of the Legislature for the bill. As the debate progressed, protesters and police clashed at the doors of the Upper House. According to the authorities, there are more than twenty detainees and at least five deputies hospitalized after being injured in the protest.
