The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, announced on Monday a new package of aid measures for Ukraine and reaffirmed the country’s support for the Ukrainians in the midst of war with Russia.
Ardern, who has described the Russian invasion as “unjustified”, has reaffirmed that it is an “attack against innocents and against the sovereignty of a country”. “Our response includes not only the condemnation of Russian actions but also the imposition of support measures on Ukraine,” she clarified.
Thus, he has pointed out that among the measures are funds for the acquisition of military equipment and support from the international community to guarantee “that the crimes and misdemeanors” committed in the framework of the war are judged.
“This is included in the diplomatic, humanitarian, legal and military aspects of the aid offered, which amounts to 33 million New Zealand dollars (around 19.7 million euros) to date,” he said, according to a statement.
In this regard, he pointed out that the economic sanctions introduced by the country have also limited Russia’s ability to continue equipping itself. “New Zealand’s contribution has been significant. During our visit to Madrid we will try to address the future trajectory of the war and the possible additional humanitarian needs of the country,” she said.
On the other hand, he stressed that the country will contribute another 4.5 million New Zealand dollars (about 2.7 million euros) through a NATO fund for the distribution of non-lethal military equipment and communications material.
