The South Korean archer Lim Si-hyeon has broken a world record on Thursday this week in the women’s qualifying round of the Paris Olympicsstarting the Summer Olympics with an exciting start.
Lim scored 694 points out of a possible 720 on the Esplanade des Invalides in the French capital, taking first place in the qualifying round. The previous world record of 692 points had been achieved by another South Korean archer, Kang Chae-young, who was recorded in June 2019.
Lim is a three-time gold medalist at last fall’s Asian Games. She will be the top seed in the singles competition. The competition will begin next Tuesday, with the round of 64.

Lim will also represent South Korea in the mixed team event on August 2. His partner will be Kim Woo-jin, a two-time Olympic gold medalist. The athlete had previously finished first in the men’s individual qualifying round on Thursday.
Kim scored 686 points, making him the top seed for the singles tournament, which also begins Tuesday with the round of 64.
The two South Korean archers will compete for the chance to win three gold medals in Paris. Last year, Lim did so at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where she took home gold medals in the women’s individual event, the women’s team event and the mixed team event.
The mixed team event was first introduced at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Games were held in 2021. At that time, South Korean archer An San became the first triple gold medalist in Olympic archery history. However, An did not make the South Korean team for Paris.
South Korea has so far been the most successful nation in Olympic archery history, with 43 medals, including 27 gold medals.
