Arab countries show solidarity with Lebanon after Hezbollah-linked 'wannabes' explode

Iraq denounces a “Zionist cyber attack” and calls for “international intervention” to end the escalation of war in the region

September 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Several Arab countries on Tuesday expressed their support for Lebanon following the explosion of beeper devices belonging to members of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, an incident that left at least nine dead and 2,800 injured and for which Beirut blames Israel.

On the one hand, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al Safadi has expressed his total rejection of “any action that threatens Lebanon’s security” and has conveyed to Lebanese Prime Minister Nayib Mikati Amman’s willingness to provide medical assistance for the wounded.

In the same vein, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati held a conversation with Mikati in which he expressed Cairo’s solidarity and noted that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has arranged to provide Beirut with all necessary support, according to ‘L’Orient-Le Jour’.

Iraqi authorities have announced that they will send medical and emergency teams to assist with operations in Lebanon in response to the wave of injuries caused by the bomb explosions. Baghdad has also expressed fears of a “regional expansion of the war.”

Unlike the aforementioned countries, Iraq has dared to link this incident to a “Zionist cyber attack” and has even called for “international intervention” to put a stop to the escalation in the region.

“These developments, in addition to other ongoing threats and attacks by the usurping entity, and the threat of launching a full-scale war against Lebanon, are matters that require urgent international intervention,” Iraqi government spokesman Basem al-Awadi said, according to the Nina news agency.

At least nine people have been killed and more than 2,800 injured when beepers belonging to Hezbollah members exploded. In Beirut, both the government and Hezbollah have linked the incident to Israel and promised a response, but Tel Aviv has remained silent.

Hezbollah’s allies – such as Palestinian militias, Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Iran – have shown their support for Lebanon and have not hesitated to point the finger at the “Zionist enemy” for what happened.
