April Consumer Price Index in Vietnam down 0.34% MoM

The consumer price index (CPI) in Vietnam fell 0.34% mom in April but rose 2.81% yoy, according to the General Statistical Office (OGE).

In the first four months of the year, the index rose 3.84% year-on-year, mainly due to the increase in the prices of education, housing and construction materials, culture, leisure and tourism, food and electricity.

In April, seven of the eleven groups of main consumer goods and services registered price decreases, and the remaining increases.

In particular, a fall of 0.38% in the price of food and restaurant services caused a decrease of 0.13 percentage points in the CPI.

In April, gold prices rose 2.04% MoM but were down 1.09% YoY. In the January-April period, prices rose by 0.66% year-on-year.

In particular, a fall of 0.38% in the price of food and restaurant services caused a decrease of 0.13 percentage points in the CPI.

Meanwhile, the USD price in April fell 0.89% MoM but rose 2.5% YoY, marking a 3.21% YoY increase in the first four months of this year.

According to the OGE, this month core inflation increased by 0.13% compared to the previous month, and 4.56% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first four months it increased by 4.9% year-on-year, above the general CPI average (3.84%).
