Apple told AFP that the suggestion of this predictive emoji on the iPhone keyboard was not intentional and will be fixed in the next update of its mobile operating system.
The issue was reported on social media by British television presenter Rachel Riley, renewing the debate over whether Israel or the Palestinians have the right to claim Jerusalem as their capital.
“When I type Israel's capital, Jerusalem, I am offered the Palestinian flag emoji,” Riley wrote in a post on X, asking Apple to explain the reason for that suggestion.
He stressed that he was not presented with suggestions with emojis of other flags when he wrote the names of other capital cities in applications in iPhone messages.
