Classified: France ’44 invites players to take command of a special operations commando and French Resistance fighters as they launch a campaign of sabotage and destruction against German forces in France. Along the way, alliances must be sought to create a resistance network and attack Nazi interests in occupied territory. But keep in mind that the more chaos is caused, the more attention will be drawn from the Gestapo, the secret and political Police of Nazi Germany.
Absolutely Games wants to deliver a game that is faithful to the historical period, respectful of what really happened and that honors the sacrifice of the special forces and the Resistance, so Classified: France ’44 will offer more than 45 missions inspired by their exploits. One of the title references is the Operation Jedburghname under which a series of interventions carried out by teams from the British SOE, the American OSS, the French resistance and the armies of Belgium and the Netherlands are known, whose objective was to help the Allies before the battle of Normandy with sabotage and guerrilla warfare.
When building and managing their squad, players should keep in mind that each character has their own personality and story. All of them must be trained, customized and equipped with weapons and abilities. Nor should their morality be neglected, so time should be spent learning about their lives and their struggle on the battlefields.
When entering combat, the usual systems and mechanics of a turn-based tactical game will be launched, but with some peculiarities. For example, in Classified: France ’44 there is a trust system where every shot counts for both sides. Even completely missing a shot will reduce the target’s resolve, which can lead to being paralyzed and failing to act on their turn. This will cause the soldiers to be more vulnerable, giving rise to different strategies such as a flanking maneuver. Tactics to eliminate key targets before direct action will also be one of the main mechanics of the title.
