Despite giving their best, Ana DelveyHer time in the ballroom was cut short.
The 33-year-old socialite hustler, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, was eliminated during the second week of “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night. When co-host Julianne Hough asked her what she learned from her experience in the ballroom, she bluntly replied: “Nothing.”
Her pro partner, Ezra Sosa, seemed taken aback by her cheeky response and raised his eyebrows in surprise. Hough, 36, politely laughed off the response before ending the episode.
As the cast finished saying their goodbyes and dispersed from the stage, dancer Alan Bersten and contestant Dwight Howard were seen hugging Delvey and Sosa, 23, as they left the stage.
After the elimination, Delvey was seen smiling as he walked backstage, according to PeopleFor their final dance on the show, Delvey and Sosa performed the quickstep to the “Devil Wears Prada” theme song, “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall.
Sosa choreographed the dance to playfully mock Delvey’s aloof behaviour. However, despite cracking a smile this time, it wasn’t enough to save the fashionista from being ejected.
Delvey first rose to fame for posing as a wealthy German heiress and using her social standing to scam wealthy individuals, banks, and hotels. After being arrested in 2017, she was convicted of grand larceny in the first, second, and third degrees and theft of services in 2019. Her appearance on the show outraged many fans due to these past crimes.
And viewers weren’t too happy when Delvey arrived at the… Season 33 Premiere last week using a Ankle monitor with shiny embellishments.
The New York City resident was introduced at the start of the show as a “fashionista and entrepreneur” and took to the dance floor wearing an ankle monitor adorned with sparkles that matched her ensemble in ombré shades of blue, purple, pink and yellow. The device appeared to be topped with a bow.
During the segment, Delvey explained why he has to wear the device. “I overstayed my visa because I was in jail, so it’s kind of hard to get out,” he said with a light laugh.
“I served my time,” Delvey said, adding that he hopes to change critics’ minds.
“I have reinvented myself many times and this time I am going to be a ballroom dancer.”
And Judge Carrie Ann Inaba addressed the key issue during her criticism.
“I just want to say something. When you stepped out onto the dance floor, there was a change in the energy of this room,” Inaba said. “And I would like to say let’s give all of this a chance, because I can imagine this scares you and I’m not for or against anything you’ve done. But this is about your dancing.”
To sum up his quick thoughts on Delvey’s “DWTS” debut as time was running out, he added: “Let’s all give her that space, please.”
Delvey revealed that when she was cast in the series, she had received special permission from ICE, which had detained her in 2021, to compete on the condition that would use the deviceDelvey had previously served time in state prison and paid restitution before his release in February 2021.
Delvey spokeswoman Juda Engelmayer confirmed that he could travel within 70 miles of his base of operations and anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City under the previous conditions of house arrest, according to the Associated PressHowever, they were unable to comment on any changes to those rules.
After last week’s show, Sosa, who was promoted to professional dancer for season 33, made a TikTok Monday’s video, reacting to the negativity her partner received.
“On my part, I was feeling very positive,” he said. “On my partner’s side, she wasn’t getting the same. I think the hardest part of my day after [the] “On the press line, she was reading the comments and we couldn’t find her. They finally found her in the bathroom. She was crying. I had never seen her like that and it broke my heart.”
On Tuesday’s episode, Delvey’s friend, actress Julia Fox, echoed her partner’s sentiments, sharing that Delvey’s tough exterior was a form of self-protection.
“Even though Anna puts on that tough exterior, it’s obviously a defense mechanism,” Fox told the cameras.
