It was on a television marathon afternoon when Paul Solar Vera (25), an Astronomy graduate from the University of Concepción (UdeC) and a Master of Science student with a major in Physics, celebrated with his wife when he was selected for a scholarship from the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) which will allow you to carry out doctoral studies abroad.
The University of HamburgGermany, is the place where Paulo will promote his research on the birth of supermassive black holes, adding the impact of radiation from stars on these processes to his current models that consider the effects of collisions and gas accretion.
“One of the topics that most attracts my attention is cosmology and black holes. I wanted to do my thesis work with the professor Dr Dominik Schleicher, he proposed several projects to me and we settled on this one related to the formation of black holes. I found it super interesting and I didn’t know that there was so little information about the formation of black holes”, commented the student.
Paulo, who had shown interest in studying abroad during the first year of his Master’s stay, and who had also visited the Universities of Heidelberg and Hamburg, now you can share with academics such as Dr. Robi Banerjee, director of the Hamburg observatory. The researcher, along with Professor Dominik, were a key player when applying to the ANID.
“Paulo carried out a very ambitious project in his Master’s thesis, working on one of the first simulations on the formation of supermassive black holes, including the dynamics of gas and protostars, arriving at a better level of modeling. It is also very good that he can continue with his work, learn more how to improve the modeling and collaborate with other colleagues in Germany”, added the astronomer and professor at the UdeC.
November is the tentative date for the student’s trip to Hamburg, where he will spend the next semesters improving your simulation modelssharing with other students and academics and representing the Astronomy career and the University of Concepción in the country of the old continent.
Finally, the perseverance, effort and a lot of work hard are part of the advice that Paulo gives to those who consider doing postgraduate studies abroad, in addition to highlighting the humane and horizontal treatment of the Department’s academics with each of the students.
