Google has announced the arrival in Spain of the ‘Find my device’ function that adds the location of equipment and accessories even if they are not connected, as well as compatibility with tracking devices from other brands.

‘Find my device’ is a Google service developed for the Android operating system that allows you to find a linked device remotely in case of theft or loss, as well as delete all the information it contains.

The company announced a few weeks ago that it would expand the capabilities of this feature to be able to locate an Android phone or tablet even if they do not have an Internet connection, which would initially be available in Canada and the United States.

Likewise, he commented that this service would also support third-party tracking accessories, from brands such as Chipolo and Pebblebeee, as long as they were compatible with ‘Find my device’.

Google has now announced that this offline device search service will arrive in Spain in the coming days and has recalled that, to find these objects, it will use the network of more than one billion devices in the Android community and that will store recent device locations.

These locations will be encrypted using PIN, pattern or password that have been configured by the users, so that only they will be able to see the locations. “They are not visible to Google nor are they used for other purposes,” she clarified in an email sent to users of Gmail accounts.

They will receive a notification on Android devices when this is activated function. Until then, users who do not want to include their computers in this network have the option of disabling it through this service on the web. The chosen option will be applied to all terminals linked to said Gmail account.
