An NGO denounces that Saudi Arabia executed a prisoner on March 30, in the middle of Ramadan

3 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The NGO European Saudi Organization for Human Rights (ESOHR) has denounced this Monday that Saudi Arabia executed a prisoner on March 30, in the middle of the month of Ramadan, thus breaking its promise not to carry out executions during the holy month to the Muslims.

The execution took place in the city of Medina and with it, as denounced by ESOHR in a statement, there are already 17 executions carried out by the authorities since the beginning of the year. The fact that the last one was carried out during the holy month of Ramadan is a sign of “the escalation of bloodshed”.

“ESOHR confirms that execution during Ramadan poses a serious threat to imprisoned people. ESOHR data shows that at least 64 people are threatened with execution at various levels of litigation,” it said in a statement.

In this sense, the organization has specified that this fact supposes the breach of a promise made by King Salmán of Saudi Arabia, as well as his son, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salmán, who previously assured that they were not going to carry out executions during Ramadan.

In the month of Ramadan, Muslims cannot eat or drink, nor smoke, nor have relationships from dawn to sunset, devoting more space to prayer and helping people in need.
