June 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
An Israeli court approved this Wednesday to extend for 45 days the ban on broadcasts by the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera, whose operations were suspended in May in line with a law approved by Parliament that limits the operations of foreign media considered as “hostile.”
Thus, it has accepted the request presented in this regard by the Minister of Communications of Israel, Shlomo Karhi, and has ratified the closure of the offices of this medium, as well as the blocking of its website and the seizure of all systems and devices. , as reported by the newspaper ‘The Jerusalem Post’.
The court has noted in its ruling that the authorities have presented “compelling and clear evidence” about “the close connection between the terrorist organization Hamas and Al Jazeera,” according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. In this sense, he has stated that the broadcasts include “incitement” and “‘real-time’ descriptions of Army positions.”
On May 5, the Israeli authorities banned the channel’s broadcasts in Israel, arguing that it carried out acts of incitement to attacks against State security and for acting as a “propaganda” organ for Hamas, within the framework of the aforementioned legislation, approved in April by the Knesset.
In this way, the competent Israeli authorities – both the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Minister of Communications – have the capacity to order the closure of foreign media operating in Israel, as well as confiscate their equipment, if they represent “harm.” to the security of the State”.
