An individual arrested in Germany for planning an attack against the Israeli Embassy

The German Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of a suspect belonging to the jihadist organization Islamic State who was planning an attack against the Israeli Embassy in Germany.

The arrest occurred on Saturday after a police operation in the city of Bernau, neighboring Berlin. The individual has been identified as a 28-year-old man of Libyan origin, according to police sources to the newspaper ‘Bild’.

Israel’s ambassador in Berlin, Ron Prosor, thanked the German authorities “for guaranteeing the security of our embassy” in a message on the X platform.

A spokesperson for the Embassy also confirmed to the DPA agency that the diplomatic mission was aware that there were plans for a possible attack against the facilities.

After the arrest, the Federal Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann (FDP), assured that “the protection of Israeli institutions in Germany is particularly important in these times when fanatical hatred towards Israel and anti-Semitism dominate the world, and “Islamist terrorism always finds new supporters.”
