A freight train with about 20 wagons derailed this Tuesday due to a strong explosion in the Briansk region, on the border with Ukraine, according to Russian media, which did not clarify the origin of the detonation.
Russian Railways has confirmed that the convoy derailed at 7:47 p.m. at the Snezhetskaya station, in the Snezhetskaya-Belie Berega region, with no casualties.
Rail traffic is interrupted as a result of this incident and firefighters and two recovery trains have been sent to the scene.
Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz has confirmed the explosion. “An unidentified explosive has been detonated in the area of the Snezhetskaya train station. There are no victims. As a result of the incident, the locomotive and several wagons of the convoy have derailed,” he recounted on his Telegram channel, according to the chain. of Russian television RBC.
Sources cited by the Telegram Shot news channel have revealed that there have been three detonations in total and that firefighters are already working at the scene. The video posted by Shot shows a convoy of freight cars and tank cars.
On Monday a similar explosion caused the derailment of another freight train in the area and several fuel depots in Crimea were attacked last weekend. These incidents are part of a series of attacks against Russian infrastructure amid speculation about the start of a Ukrainian military counteroffensive.
