( Spanish) — An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was recorded this Tuesday near Easter Island, in Chile, according to a report from the United States Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English).
The depth of the telluric movement, according to the USGS, is 10 kilometers.
According to the Chilean Navy’s Oceanographic Hydrographic Service (SHOA), the earthquake originated about 699 kilometers northwest of Easter Island and “does not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami on the Chilean coast.”
