MADRID 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A Colombian Air Force plane with 117 people on board, 50 of them minors, landed this Thursday at a military base in the capital, Bogotá, from Lebanon as part of the evacuations due to the wave of bombings from Israel.
“On the instructions of President Gustavo Petro, we quickly responded to the needs of our nationals in Lebanon concentrated in Beirut who expressed their desire to get out of this highly risky situation,” Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto said at a press conference. Murillo.
Murillo has highlighted that the organization has been “very complex.” “This operation generated a lot of risk, but the safety of both the Air Force personnel and the crew and the people coming to Colombia was guaranteed,” he added.
The Foreign Minister has reported that a second flight will be organized and has reported that these planes are loaded with humanitarian aid “for the civilian population that is at serious risk in both Beirut and the Gaza area.”
The resurgence in hostilities is part of the clashes for nearly a year, after the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory a day after the offensive carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) and other Palestinian factions – in which almost 1,200 people died and another 240 were kidnapped – and which led Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against Gaza, which now has 41,800 dead.
