In his six years in office, he has held more than a thousand televised morning briefings lasting an average of two and a half hours each. The so-called “morning” has been his way of maintaining constant communication with his followers.

In his last press conference, AMLO thanked his successor, Claudia Sheinbaum, for her respectful treatment until the end and reiterated that he said goodbye “very happy because I am going to hand over the presidential sash to an exceptional woman.”

It is difficult to find a transition like the one we are experiencing in history. Personally, I feel very satisfied with the president’s treatment of me, respectful to the end.

In addition, AMLO presented data from his Government on job creation in Mexico, federal investment in young people and assured that during his six-year term, millions of people escaped poverty.

“Because it is one thing to proclaim that for the good of all, first the poor, and another thing is to get them out of poverty, we estimate nine million five hundred thousand people during our six-year term, and the same thing, inequality was reduced,” he said.

The number of people in poverty has decreased during this Government, according to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval)—something that several analysts attribute to the increase in the minimum wage and direct money transfers through social programs. —. In his last morning, AMLO referred to the damage caused by Tropical Storm John in recent days and said that the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, will visit the area.

“We are assisting victims of Acapulco, there is the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Navy, the National Guard, Civil Protection, the Ministry of Welfare, the water is already going down, or rather the water has already gone down in the flooded oclonias, we are delivering hot food, we are distributing groceries, there is medical service, the census has already begun to deliver direct support to 15,000 affected homes,” said López Obrador.

During the presentation of the figures for his six-year term, López Obrador highlighted his policy of republican austerity.

“Austerity is not just an administrative matter, but one of principles, we must practice republican, Juarist austerity and also Franciscan poverty, happiness is not accumulating material goods, wealth, fame, titles, happiness is being good with oneself , with our conscience, with our neighbor.
Power is also humility, we have managed to advance because we have not allowed corruption and because we have created an austere government,” said AMLO.
