Americans are not happy with the way democracy works right now.
According to a survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, almost half of Americans, 49%, say that democracy does not work well in the United States.
Only 10% say that democracy is working very or extremely well, while 40% say that it is working somewhat well.
The two main US political parties also received low marks for how each upholds democratic principles.
47% said Democrats are doing a poor job of democratic principles, while 56% of those polled said Republicans could do a better job.
The Associated Press says the poll shows there is “widespread political alienation as a polarized country limps out of the pandemic and into a recovery haunted by inflation and recession fears.”
The survey was conducted from June 22 to 26.
