It seems that Forspoken’s problems do not end, and it is that, if suspicions appeared yesterday that the implementation of DirectStorage in this title may be causing a drop in in-game performancewe now find that AMD Polaris graphics cards would not be compatible with the title.
The fault of this would be the version of the feature that is required to run Forspoken, and that is that according to what we read in videocardzalthough the AMD Polaris GPUs found in the AMD Radeon RX 400 and RX 500 support DirectX 12they do so at level DX12_0, while the title seems to require a higher level, either DX12_1 or DX12_2, aka Ultimate.
This also explains why the minimum requirements call for at least an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT in the case of AMDSo while AMD RX Vega or RX 400/500 graphics cards may be more powerful than the latter, they don’t have the feature levels needed to run all of the game’s graphics functions.
In principle this will be the case for most titles that make use of higher levels of DirectX 12but we rarely find it specified in the minimum requirements so that it is the end user who can assess whether their computer can run the game or not, especially since this seems to be the first title that requires yes or yes of DirectX 12_1.
