Yesterday we echoed a serious problem that apparently had to do with AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors, but that seems to have expanded to some other model, because today AMD has released an official statement regarding this problem that seems to have carried away several more chips, among them a chip without 3D cache.
The statement reads like this: “We are aware of a limited number of complaints that excessive voltage during overclocking You may have damaged the motherboard socket and pins. The BIOS settings are within the product specifications. Anyone whose CPU may have been affected by this issue should contact AMD Customer Support.”
For now, AMD is investigating the situation together with motherboard manufacturers, because as we mentioned yesterday, one of the main suspects is the fact that the EXPO profiles are putting too much voltage into the processors, burning them out along the way.
AMD is also working to release new firmwares that may restrict the voltage values of the processor, something that we have already seen in the case of manufacturers such as MSI or ASUS.
