Geeknetic AMD announces its Versal Premium Series Gen 2 FPGAs with PCI Express 6.0 CXL 3.1 and LPDDR5X 1

The AMD Versal Premium Series Gen 2 are AMD’s new family of programmable FPGA chips, equipped with the latest technologies and for all types of sectors that need data processing adapted to specific needs.

According to AMD itself, these AMD Versal Premium Series Gen 2 are the first FPGAs on the market with support for PCI Express 6.0, LPDDR5X and CXL 3.1, designed to be able to process and transmit data at higher speeds in all types of applications and industries. In fact, they are compatible with system with AMD EPYC CPU via CXL and PCIe directly.

CXL 3.1 is the latest version of the standard Compute Express Link which serves to interconnect all types of chips and modules at high speed.

Taking into account the operation of FPGAs (programmable chips for specific tasks), AMD Versal Premium Series Gen 2 can be used in all types of environments, from aerospace industry to data centers, defense, communications, data collection, testing , etc.

They support LPDDR5X memories up to 8,530 MB/s, 2.7 times faster than that supported by competing chips from the same sector.

The AMD Versal Premium Series Gen 2 They will begin shipping in the form of test chips in early 2025, while production chips will begin production in the second half of the year. Interested companies will have all the platform development tools at their disposal starting in the second quarter of 2025.-
