Konami’s return to video games has had some good moments, one of them with the first collection of Metal Gear Solid which demonstrated a renewed commitment to gaming. The absence of the other installments anticipates that there will be a second release, but the expectation is on what will happen with one of Hideo Kojima’s most ambitious installments since it has been locked away on a Sony console for 16 years.
The time is near when Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will leave the confinement on PS3
During an interview with IGNKonami producer Noriaki Okamura spoke about the possibilities of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots leave the exclusivity with PlayStation and finally be available on other platforms. In this regard, the creative pointed out that the Japanese company knows about the desire of the players for this installment to be part of a second collection of the franchise: “we are definitely aware of this situation with MGS4. Unfortunately, we can’t say too much at this point as we can only talk about Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection which in its volume 1 has games 1 through 3… you can probably piece that sequence together! Currently, we’re still internally analyzing what we should do for the future of the series. Sorry, we can’t reveal anything right now, but stay tuned!
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots debuted in 2008 for the PlayStation 3 being one of Hideo Kojima’s most ambitious projects. Its development was aimed at taking advantage of and exploiting the hardware of the Sony console, despite its programming difficulties, but recent reports have indicated that there were internal tests in which the title ran well on an Xbox 360.
However, in the end Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remained a PlayStation 3 exclusive and that’s where it’s been until today. There was another way to play it through the PlayStation Now cloud service in select markets, but the reality is that this is a release that should be multiplatform at this point.
Hence fans have high expectations for the announcement and release of a volume 2 of Metal Gear Solid which could include Metal Gear Solid 4 along with the rest of the titles that were not released in the first collection. Konami has not denied the possibility, although they have not officially accepted that the game will become multiplatform. We will have to wait and see.
