Prime Video’s revamped interface wasn’t the only surprise Amazon had up its sleeve for its subscribers. Completely by surprise, as is often the case in these situations, the company founded by Jeff Bezos has announced that it will raise the rates of its Prime subscription service in Europe; in some countries, such is the case of France, the rise will be no less than 43%.

Some Spanish users have already begun to receive an email at dawn warning them of the change. According to the letter, “as of September 15, 2022, the price of the monthly subscription to Prime will increase from €3.99 to €4.99/month and the price of the annual subscription to Prime will increase from €36.00 at €49.90/year”. In practice, this is an increase of about 39%, which is certainly a considerable amount for many.

The new rate will apply to all renewals and registrations made after September 15.

What is the reason for this rise? According to the message sent to Prime subscribers, “the reasons for this change are due to the general and material increase in spending levels due to the increase in inflation that affects the specific costs of the Prime service in Spain and are due to to external circumstances that do not depend on Amazon”. From the company they try to remove iron from the rise and remember that prices have not risen since August 2018, despite which the services offered to Prime subscribers have increased.

Amazon’s Prime service currently includes free shipping and offers on select products, access to the Prime Video platform, video games and content through Prime Gaming, streaming via Twitch Prime, music with Prime Music, free, paid and unlimited download eBooks through Prime Reading and 5 GB of cloud storage thanks to Amazon Drive. Without a doubt, a really extensive list of services, but many people do not use or need it to its full extent.
