Jakarta – The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has rejected evidence submitted by former Indonesian Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo, alias SYL. SYL had withdrawn his statement or memorandum of defence in which he claimed that everything he was accused of was based on official orders.

The prosecutor initially said SYL’s 12-year sentence was fair. Because, consider several things, including mitigating factors.

But in SYL’s defense memo, he asked the jury to release him from custody in a corruption case at Indonesia’s Agriculture Ministry, after claiming that all his behavior was solely due to an official visit.

Singer Nayunda Nabila was a witness at the trial of Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

The prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Commission then immediately referred to the benefits of these services, such as singers or the circumcision of grandchildren.

“Are singers an official necessity? Is the cost of circumcision of the defendant’s grandchildren a public interest? Is the skin care of the defendant’s children and grandchildren a public necessity? It is giving money to you. The party’s legislative measures are in the public interest” buying bags and jackets for the defendant’s wife and children, KPK prosecutor Meyer Simanjuntak said in the courtroom on Monday, June 8, 2024.

“Is the repair of the defendant’s private house in the public interest? Is the payment of the fee for the defendant’s family a public necessity? Is the purchase of gifts for the defendant’s grandchildren an official necessity? Is the purchase of a luxury watch by the defendant a public necessity? Is paying by credit card an official act,” he continued.

The prosecutor also explained another of SYL’s actions in the corruption case at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, namely the request for 20 percent of the salaries of first-level officials.

“Oh, defendants and legal counsel, if you still have a shred of honesty left in your hearts, show it in this noble trial. Honesty is something that belongs to every person who is loyal to Almighty God. Or you really have nothing left but honesty,” the prosecutor said.

It is known that Syahrul Yasin Limpo was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of IDR 500 million, in addition to 6 months in prison for extortion and receiving a reward from the Ministry of Agriculture.

He was also ordered to pay approximately IDR 44 billion and USD 30,000 in damages.

The indictment was filed because the prosecutor believed that the SYL violated Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 18 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 55 (1) of the Penal Code. (KUHP) in conjunction with paragraph 1 of Article 64 of the Penal Code.
