MADRID Jan. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 34 people have died and more than a hundred have been injured in several attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in towns in the states of Khartoum and White Nile in the framework of the war unleashed against the Sudanese Army in April of 2023 in the African country.
The Sudanese Ministry of Health has indicated that nine people have died in Khartoum, where the RSF has carried out several bombings and opened fire on the outskirts of the country’s capital. Thus, it has warned of the increase in tuberculosis cases in the city and has urged the population to go to medical centers if they present symptoms.
Likewise, the authorities confirmed 25 fatalities and dozens of injuries in White Nile, in the south of the country, after infiltrating from areas under their control in the state of Sennar.
Sources close to the matter have accused the RSF militiamen of opening fire on the civilian population indiscriminately, according to information collected by the ‘Sudan Tribune’ newspaper.
For its part, the United Nations has urged nine for a complete cessation of fighting in the country, whose population is at serious risk of suffering from famine.
Sudan is mired in a civil war following hostilities that broke out in April 2023 within the framework of increased tensions over the integration of the RSF within the Armed Forces, a key part of a signed agreement in December 2022 to form a new civilian government and reactivate the open transition after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir.
Since then, an estimated 11.5 million people have been internally displaced due to the conflict, according to UN data. Another 3.2 million have had to leave the country.
