Vegan skincare and beauty brand Boscia has associated with the platform cross-border B2C company Tmall Global, owned by Chinese conglomerate Alibaba, to take advantage of the surge in interest in sustainable consumer goods.
The Californian company launched its flagship store on Tmall Global last year, coinciding with growing demand among Chinese consumers for non-toxic, eco-friendly creams, serums and cleansers.
“As sustainability becomes an established requirement for shoppers, China is witnessing a rapid rise in demand for products that conform to global green standards,” said Tony Shan, director of Tmall Global and the platform. Koala cross-border import e-commerce company in America, in a statement earlier this year.
While the global beauty and personal care sector grew 2% last year, according to market analyst Neilson, sales of its NeilsonIQ Clean index – products free of 600 artificial ingredients – grew 8.1%.
“Global reach is a priority, and the volume we can drive at Tmall Global is huge,” says Sarah Inomata, Head of International Sales at Boscia. “Our goal now is to just continue to grow on this platform and see what we can achieve.”
“My advice to other brands that want to sell in China is not to wait. Start now. I wish we had started selling in China earlier through Tmall Global.”
Directly running its own store on Tmall allows Boscia to learn about Chinese consumer trends in this way, and the brand is optimistic about the future growth of the market.
“Boscia has the potential to grow further in China and the brand plans to continue to innovate new clean formulations, launch new products on Tmall Global throughout the year and monitor sales to determine how well they resonate with Chinese consumers,” says Lan. Belinky, Co-Creator and CEO of Boscia.
